Phil Lindsey: When the Dalai Lama was essentially asked, “How can we become more healthy and sustainable?” he replied, “Have more festivals!” The reason I think he offered this recommendation is because there’s nothing more culture-shifting than to have an experience of a more conscious community. In addition to over 50 performing artists, Mystic Garden offers numerous opportunities to dance, play, and expand consciousness. Theme camps such as yoga, ecstatic dance, raw food, and drumming workshops allow participants to discover new tools for planetary and personal evolution. Mystic Garden seeks to inspire artistic vision, health, movement, and a deeper connection to nature in an alcohol-free, family-friendly environment. We also have a Kids Village, which will provide a fun, safe place for children to play with each other, while offering them activities such as yoga, meditation, face painting, and games. We are excited to have facilitators from the Mosaic Project offering nonviolence, conflict-resolution, and empathy-building skills workshops for kids.

Cindy: Mystic Garden Party has long been an advocate for protecting our water resources. How will you be addressing these issues this year?

Phil: The 2010 MGP features a live webcast of the Global Water Ceremony inspired by Dr. Masaru Emoto, renowned water emissary and star of the hit documentary What the Bleep Do We Know? Held on July 25th, also known as the “Day Out of Time” on the Mayan calendar, the Global Water Ceremony will draw an unprecedented number of participants from around the world and will begin a national water-awareness effort in conjunction with the United Nations’ “Decade of Action” campaign. MGP, in conjunction with the Global Events Network, will stream Dr. Emoto live from Brazil along with over 200 ceremonies taking place around the world. The ceremony will also feature exclusive messages from luminaries such as Gangaji, James Twyman, Jean Houston, and Neale Donald Walsch. This massive global prayer and day of giving thanks for our water is much needed in light of the recent Gulf of Mexico oil spill, which continues to destroy our water and ecosystems.

Cindy: What is it that brought you to our area?

Phil: When I was looking for another venue, after we outgrew our venue in Ashland, Oregon, I had a conversation with Rahasya of Lotus Guide that encouraged me to check out Susie’s Tehama Gold Olive Ranch. When I first met the owner, Suzie, she took me to see the land and I just knew this was the place. Not only was the land gorgeous, it was quickly apparent to me how much of a visionary Susan is, and how her values, big heart, and passion for culture-shifting gatherings would be a perfect match for Mystic Garden.

Cindy: Who are some of the people who will be there?

Phil: This year we will have our best lineup yet! For music we have over 50 live and electronic performances, including Michael Franti and Spearhead, Brett Dennen, The Mutaytor, Steve Kimock and Friends, Jill Sobule, the Dave Stringer Band, Albino, Ott, Bluetech’s Satori Social, Cheb i Sabbah, Lynx and Janover, and so many more! We’re also excited to feature visionary arts luminaries Robert Venosa and Martina Hoffmann, who will be with us all weekend doing live painting and experiential art workshops. For a complete lineup go to www.mysticgardenparty.com.

Cindy: What inspired you to create Mystic Garden Party events?

Phil: At one point, as I learned about the state of the world, our environment, and what tragedies have happened during the history of humanity, I felt powerless. I longed deeply to find a sense of hope. I began attending Rainbow Gatherings and conscious music festivals on the West Coast and discovered a community of people who also sought to hold space for community and tribe and had passion toward the creation of positive social change for the better of all people. In those moments I felt this bliss that I wanted to share with the world. It made me see that through the spirit of community, there is nothing we can’t overcome. We can learn how to care for each other and our mother Earth. That is what lead me to create MGP.

Cindy: I can see by your ad that you have several other events planned in different places. What do you envision for Mystic Garden Party’s evolution in the next few years? What’s next?

Phil: I’ve always had the vision of taking this amazing energy all over the world. In places like Byron Bay, Australia, New York, Hawaii, and Europe, I’ve started networking and developing a global network so that we can bring the MGP spirited events/festival gatherings to communities that are engaged and ready for this type of experience.
