Love’s Vibrant Life
When you stand back and look at someone’s life, the picture of who he or she is is somewhat like a tapestry. But as you come closer and look at the individual you see many different threads that weave a lifetime of accomplishments. Through the years my wife, Dhara, and I have done just that with Marianna Love. We met Marianna the artist more than 10 years ago and since then we’ve had the privilege of learning about her past accomplishments in the academic world, not to mention that of being a mother, a daughter, a wife, and a friend to many of us in the community. Her accomplishments as an artist are well known, not only locally, but on the world stage of fine accomplished artists. Not only was she accepted into the prestigious Society of Layerists in Multi-Media, but she became a regional director.
As you can imagine, to list a person’s lifetime of accomplishments would require much more than what’s possible here, but many of you already know Marianna Love, the teacher, the friend, and the artist. And dare I mention her time spent with shamans at Machu Picchu and teaching workshops at Esalen Institute in Big Sur during a time that produced some of the most forward thinkers of our age, thinkers who changed the course of the conscious movement? But what some of you don’t know is Marianna Love the social activist and this is one of the threads of Marianna’s life I would like to reveal. There is a common denominator to everything that Marianna puts her mind to and it’s called passion, and some might even say extreme passion.
This is where Marianna’s path has started to run parallel to mine because without a passionate understanding of the world around us, we will forever be locked in a state of confusion about our true situation. Following in the footsteps of a healer, Marianna has used her teaching, experience, and her art as a way to help others heal themselves; now she is using information. Her love for family, friends, and the community comes across loud and clear in everything from her conversations with others to her Facebook posts about everything from GMO foods and vaccinations to Bernie Sanders and fracking.
I know I probably should be writing more about Marianna the artist but I know all too well how easy it is to be labeled when you do something extraordinary and miss out on the evolution of someone like Marianna, who is still weaving threads into the tapestry of her ever-evolving life. If you want to see the art and meet a woman who has made the world a little brighter and better place, then I would like to personally invite you to come to an event that will forever change the way you see the world.
The Chico Art Center is presenting the 27th Annual Open Studios Art Tour, where you can see the works of more than 60 artists and their studios. The Studios Tour will be on two weekends, October 17-18 and 24-25, and the studios will be open from 10am to 5pm. The webpage for this information is www.ChicoArtCenter.com/calendar.htm.
Thank you, Marianna, for making our world a little more colorful and being our friend.
